Services Offered to Clients
Therapy
I offer individual therapy across the lifespan. Sessions can be in person or online. I use evidence-based approaches, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness, but adapt them to the needs of the client.
Parent Counselling
While incredibly fulfilling, being a parent can be challenging and demanding. Parents often benefit from support. A professional perspective can fine tune their parenting style, and help parents make the best choices for their child.
Parent counselling is recommended in the following instances:
- Young children do not have the skills or brain development to meaningfully use, or even remember, psychological strategies taught to them. It is far more effective to train and educate parents and caregivers who can, in turn, adapt and integrate these strategies when they interact with their children.
- For most selective eaters, the bulk of the work takes place with parents and caregivers. The aim is to let children eat, not to get them to eat. Children who are anxious about food and eating become more so if brought to individual therapy to address their eating differences. Reducing the stress at home, and counselling parents and caregivers on how to make mealtimes more engaging and less stressful, is key.
- If older children or teens are not ready, or willing, to attend therapy, some useful work can often be done with parents.
Consultation
If your child or adolescent is struggling in school, I am happy to meet with school personnel or other professionals to design a program that will increase their chances of success.
Assessment
I do not provide formal assessments.
Services Offered to Professionals
Presentations
My presentations are evidence-based and reflect my years of clinical experience. I am an engaging and informative speaker . Previous topics have included adjustment to new diagnoses; responsive feeding; social skills; recognizing, managing and thriving with Attention Deficit Disorder; and Autism Spectrum Disorder. If you are interested in a presentation, please contact me. Presentations can be tailored to your needs.
Professional Consultations
Over the course of my career, I have consulted with other professionals, organisations and parent groups about specific topics. Given my work in a feeding clinic at a tertiary care children’s hospital, and the limited number of psychologists who have expertise in this area, I have frequently consulted with other professionals and groups about selective eating. If this interests you, please get in touch.
Supervision
I do not provide college supervision to Provisional Psychologists .
